The Epic Solo Journey of Jason Ayr

Today, let’s delve into the world of extreme running, closely following Jason Ayr’s bold endeavor in the Speed Project, an epic challenge that took him from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, covering a total of 550 kilometers.

An Unforgettable Challenge

The Speed Project is an unforgettable and relentless race, typically contested as a relay with six team members. However, marathoner (with a time of 2 hours and 19 minutes) and former Tracksmith accountant, Jason Ayr, decided to tackle it solo. Obsessively planning with an Excel spreadsheet, Jason set out on a journey to understand his capacity for long distances.

An Adventure into the Wild

Together with his support team, including his partner and fellow marathoner, Sam Roecker, Jason ventured into the desert towards the unknown. As the challenge unfolded over several days, it became evident that the journey is always more rewarding when shared.

The Journey Beyond the Physical

The short film directed by the Thereabouts team, with an original score by Saunder Juriaans and Dani Bensi, best known for their work on TV series like Ozark and The Staircase, as well as films like Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Enemy, and The Devil all the Time, masterfully captures the essence of this epic adventure.

The Strength of Determination

Jason Ayr’s solitary journey in the Speed Project is an extraordinary example of determination and resilience. It reminds us that even when faced with seemingly impossible challenges, the support of the team and the willingness to push ourselves to the limit can carry us beyond any obstacle.
